Content engagement analytics
Live todayAnalytics tells you what happened. Widgetail is building toward telling you what it was worth.
Widgetail measures real engagement with your content: how many visits, how many distinct sessions, and how far people actually get. It's the foundation of the value layer.
Live today
What Widgetail measures.
Three measurements, taken from real visits in the browser, each with an honest note about its limits.
| Measure | What it is | Why it matters | Its limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pageviews | How many times each page was loaded. | Shows where attention is directed. Reach, not value. | Says nothing about whether anyone read the page. |
| Unique sessions | How many distinct visits your site received, counted with an anonymous session ID. | Separates a few people reading a lot from many people bouncing. | A session is a visit, not a person. It cannot identify or follow individuals. |
| Scroll depth | The furthest point visitors reach down a page. | The clearest signal today of whether content held people past the intro. | Scrolling isn't the same as reading, so we treat it as a proxy. |
The script also records coarse context: device type, country and referrer domain. It never records IP addresses or fingerprints.
The dashboard
Card by card, what reports real data and what doesn't yet.
The Console marks every card as live or preview. We do the same here.
Summary
Pageviews, unique sessions and average scroll depth, with change against the previous period.
Traffic over time
Daily pageviews across the range you pick.
Top pages
Your most-viewed pages, with views and share of traffic.
Reading behavior
Engaged time, bounce rate and pages per session.
Scroll-depth funnel
The share of visits that reach 25, 50, 75 and 100 percent of a page.
Traffic sources
Which referrers send readers who stay.
Devices, browsers and countries
Who your readers are, in aggregate.
When your readers show up
A weekday-by-hour view of your busiest times.
See it in one place.
The dashboard shows totals, daily pageviews and top pages for the period you choose. The figures on the right are illustrative, not real customer data.
The “Content value” tile is in beta: a page gets a score once it has enough traffic to score.

How it's different
Traffic analytics report visits. Widgetail is built around value.
We aren't claiming to replace a full traffic-analysis suite. The difference is where we're headed.
Typical traffic analytics
- Answers: who came, from where, to which page?
- Unit: the visit or the visitor.
- Goal: understand and grow traffic.
Widgetail
- Answers: what did people do with this content?
- Unit: the page and its engagement, from anonymous sessions.
- Goal: work out what content is worth, then connect that value to revenue.
What's next
Deeper measurement, then value.
Done
- Pageviews, unique sessions and average scroll depth from one script tag
- Traffic over time, top pages, and change against the previous period
- Anonymous sessions: no IP addresses, no fingerprints
Building now
- Reading behavior: engaged time, bounce rate, pages per session and a scroll-depth funnel
- Audience breakdowns: traffic sources, devices, browsers, countries and busiest hours. The script already sees these; the Console doesn't report them yet
Planned
- Tracking controls: honor Do Not Track, exclude paths, strip query strings
- Data retention settings and CSV export
- A privacy-safe way to see return visits, if one can be designed without identifying people
Then comes the score itself: read what content value means, or see the whole journey on the roadmap.
Questions
About the analytics.
What does Widgetail measure?
Today: pageviews, unique sessions and scroll depth (the furthest a visitor gets down a page), with traffic over time and top pages in the Console. The script also records coarse context such as device type, country and referrer domain. Reading behavior such as engaged time and bounce rate, and audience breakdowns like traffic sources, are being built.
Does Widgetail identify individual visitors?
No. The script uses an anonymous session ID generated in the browser that rotates on its own. Widgetail does not collect IP addresses or device fingerprints. Any future advertiser signal is designed to be aggregate-only.
How does Widgetail differ from Google Analytics?
General-purpose analytics tools are built to report traffic: who came, from where, to which page. Widgetail is built around engagement per page, with the goal of scoring content value and connecting it to revenue. It's a single script tag, so it can run alongside whatever you use now. We're not claiming to replace a full traffic-analysis suite.
What can I use today?
You can add one script tag to your site and see pageviews, unique sessions, scroll depth, traffic over time and top pages in the Console dashboard. Access is through the early-access list, so join it and we'll be in touch about getting set up.
